Wedding during Lent QUESTION from Linda December 4, 1999
The response I read was from Fr. Levis on the EWTN Q&A; forum. After I wrote you he corrected himself and said that it only applied to Lent which still is the problem for my daughter's March 25th date. Since you are having trouble finding the document on this, is it possible that it is up to the individual diocese? Thank you for your help. Linda ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on December 4, 1999
Dear Linda, Father Levis is a very capabale liturgist and he knows from experience what he's talking about. That being said, I searched through the current Code of Canon Law and I can't find any prohibition of having a marriage ceremony during Lent. I'll keep looking. I don't believe there's a difference from one diocese to the next. The marriage celebrated by your pastor would of course be a valid Sacrament. As you said, he's a solid priest and I would trust his judgement and follow his guidance. Enjoy the wedding and I extend my congratulations and best wishes. In Christ, John Miskell Back to Index Page
