Polish Mass
QUESTION from Rosa on June 9, 2004

Like you, I'm Polish-American... well, Polish/Italian/American. ;) In August, I'll be going on a Polish walking pilgrimage - a 70 mile walk over 4 days through NJ and PA to the shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

I've been talking to some people who have done this before, and I've been told that the Masses are in Polish, which I was thrilled about... I'm trying to learn the language so that will definately help. I'm trying to find something that has the Mass responses in Polish so I can follow along, and it's not working...

can you (or maybe any of the readers) lead me to something that I can use for Mass?

Dear Rosa:

You might check with the Shrine and see if they can send you something.

By the way, I am not Polish. I am German/English/Norweigan/Cherokee/Negro.

Perhaps you got the idea of me being Polish from my bio about being an acquaintance of a Polish exile who was a translator of the Pope's poetry, or my poetry being influenced by the post-war Polish poets (especially Tadeusz Rozewicz), or the vocations "room with three chairs" story I tell from a Polish Carmelite priest acquaintance.

I wish I could walk with you, but these days I have a hard time walking from the office to the bathroom.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
