Re: Bringing venial sins to Communion
QUESTION from Rosa on February 23, 2004

;) Okay, let me re-word my question. (Bringing venial sins to Communion on Feb. 6th)

I read somewhere that you can bring venial sins to Communion, and Jesus will forgive them. I was wondering if everything you said that applies to Confession applies to that as well.

For example, if I tell a lie... go to Mass... and bring that lie to Communion, does Jesus forgive it, forget it, and give me the grace to help me lie less in the future? Or are those things constricted to Confession alone?

Dear Rosa:

Yes, when we offer contrition through whatever appropriate way the Church teaches, God forgives, forgets, and gives grace to help you resist regardless of the sin being venial or mortal.

This is accomplished in the Sacrament of Confession when it is mortal; this is accomplished when Venial sin is forgiven through contrition brought to Communion, doing good works, etc.

So the answer to your questions is: Yes.

Isn't our God a wonderful God?

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
