Answer for Mary Catherine's question of Dec. 6
QUESTION from John on December 10, 2003

Dear Brother John-Paul,

In answer to Sister Mary Catherine's question regarding a
translation of the collects in the Mass and Office I can refer
her to the book, "Oremus: Speaking with God in the Words
of the Roman Rite," 1993 and 1997 by Martin D. O'Keefe,
S.J., which can be purchased from Jesuit Sources

This book has the latin and accurate English translations of collects, prayers over the gifts, prayers after communion, sequences, prefaces, and eucharistic prayers, from the new rite mass. The collects may be the same used in the LOH as is the format in the older breviaries but I'm not sure. Also by this same author I would recommend his book, "Exsultemus: Rejoicing with God in the Hymns of the Roman Breviary," 2002. Here the
author has provided the original latin of the restored hymns
of the church as they are found in the LOH along with a
prayerfully accurate parallel prose translation.

Nos com prole pia benedicat Virgo Maria,

John

ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on December 12, 2003

Dear John:

Thanks for the reference. This is one of the things that is so great about a Catholic community -- a sharing of information.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
