Re: Luther, Q from Barbara
Dear Br Ignatius,
I read Barbara's question on Luther. The information I got is from, EWTN, Q & A, history forum. Dr Warren H. Carroll used to be on the forum. He is the founder of Christendom College. He wrote many books. Here is a question that was asked to him, back on 11-01-2000.
Dr Carroll, I forgot to ask you on my last post: did Luther repent on his death bed? a friend of mine said she read somewhere that he did. I never heard of it. Did he? Thank you and God bless you."
Answer by Warren H. Carroll, Ph.D.....
"Tragically, no. A lot of Catholics have heard this false story and repeat it because they want to believe it. After a heavy meal Luther had a stroke and died. with no sign of repentance, as explained and documented in my volme THE CLEAVING OF CHRISTENDOM. Dr Carroll."
If you want to know more about the writtings of Martin Luther, go to The Table Talk
I hope this helps. God bless you. Anne-Marie

Dear Anne-Marie: Thanks for the post and reference. We do need to remember one thing, however. Although it appears that Luther did not formally repent, that is all we know. At the last second of breath, Luther could have repented to God (even though we cannot know that). I hope he did.
God Bless, |
