Auras
I went to a "Secretary Day" at a Franciscan retreat center. I cannot believe what we were presented with: Yoga for one hour; then "healing touch" with the mention of Reiki. In the afternoon a "licenced therapist" on healing touch gave us some demonstration on that practice saying that it was getting big in hospitals etc... and offered us his services... of course it is not free.
We finished the day with a presentation on Homeopathy, the labyrinth walk and a chanting dance. I took many notes and sent all to the Nuncio as our diocese is blind to all the garbage that goes on in our Spiritual centers.
QUESTION from Anne on September 29, 2003
My question: what is the real story about "auras". Someone told my friend that she can see an aura enveloping her, and the color changes, depending on how she feels!.. Have you heard of so much nonsense? for my friend's sake, please explain about "auras." I trust in your knowlegde and thank God for you. Anne

Dear Anne: It sounds like you found yourself a snake pit of New Age garbage. Unfortunately many, if not most, of the retreat centers in the United States are equally seduced by Satan into these New Age and sometimes even occultic nonsense. Satan knows where to strike. What better way to contaminate the Church than to take over education and retreat centers where are children, adults, seminarians, and pilgrims seek guidance, assistance, direction, and education. In terms of Auras, there is a grain of truth in that our bodies do emit electromagnetic energy. The Halo on a Saint is an artistic representation of this perhaps but is more specifically a representation of the light of God, rather than person Aura, that may emminate from a holy person. The theory of aura-reading, however, as is promoted by these New Age wackos is that our moods, emotions, and psychological conditions will change the color of our auras and those "sensitive" to view the aura can then know something about the person. There is no credible evidence from any reliable source that I know of on either a scientific or phenomenological criteria to show the existence of auras in the manner described in New Age literature or from so-called Aura-sensitives. A good clue and rule of thumb: if the source of information is coming primarily or exclusively from philosophies and ideas of the New Age, pagans, witches, Chinese healers, etc., with no corresponding guide from the tradition of the Church, then doubt the validity of the information.
