How many churches?
Hi,
Any info you can give would be great. I know that it is impossible to convince an anti-catholic bigot to be anything but, but I still cannot help but defend the church and faith when I here inaccurate and ignorant lies about her.

I just had a really frustrating arguement with my friend's dad who is a jaded ex-catholic, as is his son, and he told me that while there are genuinly good Christ filled catholic churches in the USA, 90% are not. He told me that he has been alive a lot longer than me and has seen many more than I have. I told him there are 1.5 BILLION catholics in the world and to make such an inaccurate untrue statistic like that was terrible. My question is, I think I would have been a lot better equipped to respond, if I had been able to say just how many catholic CHURCHES there actually are in the United States. Do you know the approximate figure of catholic churches in the US alone?

Dear Valentina: When anti-Catholic make comments such that 90% of the Catholic Church's in the United States are bad, you need to confront them with how they arrived at that statistic. What documentary proof do they have for that statement. If they have none, or such proof is inadequate, then they are merely expressing opinion, not fact. The next step is to then confront them with the fact that opinion not based upon some evidence is prejudicial opinion and not opinion derived from objective analysis and evidence. The latest figures I have at the moment are from January 1, 1999 Catholic Population in the U.S.: 62,018,436 (which is a 454,667 GROWTH from the previous year) PARISH CHURCHES: 19,584
