Corpus Christi Procession
QUESTION from Brent on June 14, 2004

This year at mass for Corpus Christi our new priest did something completely differently from how our old priest did it. We used to start outside of the church and process in with the Eucharist. This year, however, mass began as usual. After communion, the priest put the Eucharist in the monstrance and processed within the church. Finally, he gave a benediction with the Eucharist. There was no final blessing because he said the benediction counted for it. Was this acceptable? Thank you for your help.

ANSWER by Mr. Jacob L. Slavek on June 22, 2004

Dear Brent,

The Eucharistic procession is not a part of the Mass, so the Mass itself should be unchanged.

However the documents state that it is fitting to have the procession immediately after Mass, and that the Host used has been consecrated at that Mass. (Eucharist Worship Outside Mass)

Mr. Slavek
