Intinction
I have noticed today at Sunday Mass that one person, once receiving the Sacred Host on the hand - kept it on the hand and proceeded to the Chalice, where she 'personally' dipped the consecrated Host into the Chalice. Now, I thought that this was an abuse. Is my thinking right: intinction is allowed only through the administration of the priest or extraordinary minster of the Eucharist. (Obviously the local ordinary decides on whether intinction is allowed, but this has been brought to my attention). Ordinarily Intiction is disallowed throughout England, where I come from, but apparently this person has a medical condition which prevents her from receiving from the Chalice in the usual manner. Your comments would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Dear James, Yes your thinking is correct except that the minister must be a priest. (n.287, from the GIRM) Another minister may assist. |
