Excluding the pre-communicant grades (K-2) from masses at Parish school
Our pastor is considering excluding the pre-communicant grade school children from attending mass at our parish school. He feels they don't know what's going on anyway. Is it permissable for him to do this? Also, is there anything in the Catechism or teachings of the Church that I can use to argue that they should or must be allowed to attend?

Dear Candace, I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking about Sunday Mass? Of course children must not be excluded, anyone must be admitted to Holy Mass. Are you asking about a special children's Mass during the week? I suppose he wouldn't be REQUIRED to offer one, but I can't see why he wouldn't want to. "Because they don't know what's happening" has got to be one of the stupidest reasons not to have a children's Mass. HE SHOULD BE TEACHING THEM what is happening. I hope I've answered your question, if not please write back. Mr. Slavek |
