Tabernacle placement
QUESTION from Murphy on April 12, 2004

I know there has been many questions concerning the placement of the Tabernacle, but I have a question that I haven't seen asked. Our Pastor, on Holy Thursday, moved his chair and the altar boys chair up on to the platform recently occupied by the altar for the Tabernacle and the Tabernacle itself. The Tabernacle is now below the position of the priest. The chairs look rather odd there because that platform is barely wide or long enough to accomodate the three chairs, beside being up so high. Does this fit the definition of "Prominent and Honorable"? We have no place to build a chapel or he would for sure have already done that.

Dear Murphy,

First I would make sure it is a permanent change...

It is difficult to answer your question without actually seeing it for myself, but anyway I offer this as a general rule: When someone at the back of the church glances in the direction of the sanctuary, does his gaze naturally fall to the position of the Tabernacle? (usually the center) If it does not, I would think that the placement is NOT prominent and honorable.

Mr. Slavek
