Nicene Creed
            QUESTION from Richard on March 30, 2004

I am searching for a "definitive" source that stipulates that the Nicene Creed is required in all Sunday and Holy Day Masses, as my Priest omits it. Searching your earlier Creed responses, I see reference to Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #22, but cannot find your citation there. Can you direct me to an online rendition of this document with your citation accessable or another credible source online? I am not doubting your position; rather, I would like a source to which I can refer my Priest that would be credible to him.

Peace, Richard

             ANSWER by Mr. Jacob L. Slavek on April 4, 2004

Dear Richard,

No. 22 from the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy states that the Liturgy is not to be changed in any way as the priest sees fit... that's all I meant it to say in my other post.

The definitive source that the creed must be recited on Sundays is found in the Sacramentary, in both the Order of the Mass and also in the General Instruction.

The Order states:

After the homily, the profession of faith is said on Sundays and solemnities;

The General Instruction, no. 44 of the English being used now:

Recitation of the profession of faith by the priest together with the people is obligatory on Sundays and solemnities.

Mr. Slavek
