Alternate for "Body of Christ"
QUESTION from Damien on February 1, 2004

A few Sundays ago at Mass, while recieving, the priest said something other than "Body of Christ." It sounded as if he said, "Body of strength." I listened carefull,y and he said it to everyone else, as well. At this particular parish we kneel down in a row and recieve, as they did some years ago. I was wondering if there is anything else priests can say when distributing the host to someone.
Thank you
-Damien

Dear Damien,

Put quite simply, NO the priest is never allowed to make such a change. The Missal is clear what is to be said, and does not allow for alternatives. Thanks for writing, Mr. Slavek
