Blessing oneself after recieving Communion?
QUESTION from Mary Ann on January 26, 2004

I read somewhere that it is inappropriate for one to bless oneself (i.e. making the sign of the cross) after having recieved Holy Communion. The reason given was that a self-blessing was unnecessary because nothing was more Blessed than having recieved the body and blood (both present in the consecrated host). What's your opinion?

Dear Mary Ann,

I have never heard about anything wrong with this, I wouldn't worry about it. Remember also the Sign of the Cross is also a gesture of reverence.

Mr. Slavek
