Standing for "May the Lord accept..."
QUESTION from Rosa on January 7, 2004

I was away from the Church for 2 years, and when I came back I noticed that one thing at Mass was different. The congregation stood to say, "May the Lord accept the sacrafice at your hands, for the praise and glory of His name, for our good and the good of all the Church" rather than standing after that was said.

When I switched to my new parish, they didn't do that... they stood after that was said. Recently, one or two people have been standing while saying that and it confuses everyone. We end up with part of the congregation standing, the rest of them sitting, and most of us along with the priest looking around confused.

What's going on? Was something changed?

Dear Rosa,

Yes there has been a change. The people are now to STAND while saying "May the Lord..."
