Holy Days on Mondays & The Immaculate Conception
QUESTION from Mike on December 18, 2003

Regarding the post about if the feast of the Immaculate Conception were still a day of obligation since it fell on a Monday. My understanding is that the obligation of some Holy Days may be removed (transferred?) if they come on a Monday. However, since Mary is patroness of the United States as the Immaculate Conception, that feast is still a day of obligation regardless of when it falls.

The irony, of course, is the idea that it's an "obligation". Although I felt that way for a number of years, I now see the mass as an invitation and the more times I GET to go, the better.

Dear Mike,

Thanks for writing, but you must have just missed me, I have already answered this question.

Something I did not know: the reason that the Immaculate Conception is not removable is because Mary is Patroness. Makes sense. :-)
