Re: Problems with a Eucharistic Minister
Thank you for your advice. My confessor was equally unsure what to do about this, although I did take his advice and bring up the subject with the priest and the person.
I think, based on my responses, the result was 1 for 3. The priest seemed to have more of an issue with Baptism and made allusions to "funny facts" surrounding St. Cyprian's martyrdom. He at least said he'd think about what to do, so I'll be praying that he does things right.
The person I referenced I spoke to, and he assured me he had stopped taking and distributing communion, and thanked me for alerting him about it. Another I happened to speak to about this basically asserted straight out he didn't think the practice was sinful, even faced with the guidelines you mentioned, and has no intentions to stop. I don't forsee any real hope of getting through to him, considering he thinks there is no real difference between Catholicism and Lutheranism (his religion).
If you would have anything to suggest beyond prayer for this, I would greatly appreciate it. I will meanwhile be thankful the message got through to one person. Keep up the good work you do here.

Dear Jake, As frustrating as it may be, it seems to me that you've done everything already besides prayer. Some priests just insist on being disobedient. I suppose you could wait for your new bishop, but please don't get your hopes too high. Many people don't care for those who they consider "complainers" and will not pay much attention, especially if they are new. Also, as sad as it is, many would not care since they may consider this a small problem. Mr. Slavek |
