Re: Mass Questions (Oct. 18, 2003
Regarding your response on 10/22 of a question posted on 10/18 called "Mass Questions," I think there has been a change in the current practice and the GIRM. The orans position is the traditional posture of prayer for all the faithful. In the new GIRM, all the faithful are to extend their arms in the orans position during the Our Father. This has been implemented in many parishes already and many people have been doing it for years. Implementing this prayer posture as decreed by liturgical law is also a good way to wean people from the innovation of holding hands.

Dear Lawrence, I do not believe that this is part of the new GIRM, rather a request from the U.S. Bishops to Rome, and as far as I know it is not yet in force. Even if it is official, the posture would not be required. Mr. Slavek |
