Dear Jonathan: Well, it doesn't tell what translation edition it is, it merely says Catholic Edition. Without knowing what the specific translation edition it is, I cannot say much about it. As for the best Catholic edition to buy, it would be the Revised Standard Bible-Catholic Edition, the Douay Rheims-Challoner Edition, or the Jerusalem Bible. The Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition (RSV-CE) is actually a revision of the King James. The translation of this edition was so good that the Catholic Church approved it for use among Catholic, with a few minor edits. Be sure to get the Catholic Edition. The RSV-CE is the most popular among loyal and orthodox theologians and teachers. The style of English in this edition is mid-20th Century. Your will see on the bookshelves a "New Revised Standard Version" (NRSV). The NRSV is to be avoided. The Douay Rheims (DR) was publish just before the King James was published. It uses the old style English, as does the King James, and also has some different names to some of the books, and different numbering of verses in some places. This can be confusing to some people who are not use to it. The Jerusalem Bible is a more modern style English than the other two. It is VERY IMPORTANT to get the 1960's version of the Jerusalem Bible, which may be hard to find, and NOT the "New Jerusalem Bible".
