Alien Life
This is somewhat of an odd question, but it's something that I've been confused about for a while.
If there is, indeed, alien life in the universe I can't see how our perspective of God could NOT be drastically changed.
Yes, God created those beings, too, but what about Jesus? Did those beings have a fall, too? Did Jesus also die for their sins? Do they even believe in God? Why isn't this other life mentioned in the Bible, at all?
I just want to be able to answer people if it ever happens.
Thank you.
QUESTION from Damien on May 23, 2004
Basically, I want to be able to have something to tell pepole if we ever find life on other planets, because I know that if we ever do countless people will be shouting, "PROOF TEHRE IS NO GOD!!1," and many will lose their faith over something like that.
May God bless you.

Dear Damien: If there is intelligent life on other planets this fact would not harm, damage, or threaten our Faith for even one nanosecond. I really do not know why people think that ETs somehow threatens the existence of God. The God who created us is also the God who created any other creature in the universe. The True God whom we worship is the SAME True God that ET will worship on another planet. The FORM and APPEARANCES will likely be different, but the SUBSTANCE of the faith in God will remain the same -- and of course the BEING of God is the same regardless of what planet we come from. The existence or lack of existence of ETs is not a Church concern. It is not a religious issue. Thus the Church makes no comment on the subject other than to affirm that God is God of the WHOLE Universe -- including the God of any ETs. Some fundamentalists claim that ETs cannot be real because Christ died on the Cross for all. Well, this reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of reality. God is outside of time and space. God is in the eternal present. Within the economy of God, He could have died for sinners are millions of planets billions of years apart as we recon time on earth, yet be all at the same time. Catholics should understand this since we celebrate the sacrifice of the Mass which is not a new sacrifice but the continuing sacrifice through time of the same sacrifice of 33AD. The existence of ETs do not challenge our faith, it confirms our faith in the God of ALL the universe.
