book on angels
QUESTION from Dustin on June 11, 2004

Bro. ignatius,

I recieved a gift certificate to amazon. com for christmas and went on a book buying spree of sorts. one of the books i got was called "A dictionary of angels: including the fallen angels" for the fact that i wanted to know more about gods angels michael in particular, but what i found was thousands of names of anger heard about.

What i found out since then is that the church only recognizes Gabriel, michael and raphael. Now is that saying that none of these other angels mentioned are heretical. much of it seems occultish since the back of the book has prayers for "the powere angels" and symbols from a book supposedly from King solomon and divination and sorts and their seals including michael. and another thing is that it mentions a angel named metatron, i never heard this name before, so i believe it to be a occultish belief. what the truth in this. thankyou and godbless

Dear Dustin:

You are correct. The Church only recognizes three names of angels: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. There are no other angels to which we definitively know their names. (and we are not to "name" our guardian angels, by the way).

The book you mentioned is a Dictionary of Angels that gathers information from all sources -- legend, myth, occult, paganism, etc. -- this is not the book to read if you are interested in learning the truth about real angels of God.

There are several books that I recommend on angels You can find those on the Recommended Books page: Click here

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
