Forgetting Prayers
QUESTION from Damien on June 3, 2004

I've been having a problem that has raised my concern level.

Sometimes I'll be praying the most common of prayer, like The Gloria, the Hail
Mary, etc. Prayers I've said over and over again. Well, occassionally I forget the prayer. I just draw a blank and I can't remember what comes next. I'll try and try to remember the next word, but nothing seems right.

Now, this may be my imagination acting up on me, but tonight while I was
praying the Gloria a small black insect was flying around me. I couldn't
remember the words. I was stuck, and nothing seemed right. So, I went over to my computer to look up the words to the Gloria, because I was just
stumped. The bug landed on my screen, and the internet wasn't working. I
coudln't open any sites. I felt somethign was up. I swatted at it and it flew
away and said, "Get out of here, demon." Then the internet started working.

My imagination is probably just running away with me on that part. But, I was wondering if it's "common" or if it's known for demons to confuse people, or cause them to forget their prayers in some way.

Dear Damien:

The fly thing is most likely a coincidence. As for forgetting the words to a well known pray, this is very common and happens to most people at one time or another. Sometimes stress or tiredness can make this happen.

For myself, I am so bad about this happening that I never say a Rosary or any other prayer out loud in public unless I have a "cheat sheet" in front of me with the prayers typed out.

Nothing to worry about.

May God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
