Dear Jim: Well I am not sure Martin was a heretic, but he did flirt with heresy a time or two. His major issue was causing discord among the brethren. You have little to fear about meeting a possessed person. Full possession is growing in recent years but is still relatively rare. If you were to meet someone possessed you should leave that person immediately since you are not qualified to deal with possession. Pray for the person, tell a priest about the person, but under no circumstances are you to involve yourself with such a person. This goes for anyone who is demonized regardless of what level of demonization they have. One of the Cardinal Rules of Spiritual Warfare is: do not play doctor when you barely know first aid.
