QUESTION from mariella on May 23, 2004

Hello Brother Ignatius,

I am sorry you did not understood me about what i was saying. Let me try to explain myself again if you do not mind. :-) Your opinion does have an important value to me.

Usually in the church first communion is made at the age of 7 or 8. Being very active in church as a young child i knew who Jesus was in the Eucharist and always to partake in that mistery. Of course the though of spiritual communion was not in my mind.

During a retreat while people were praying on my including a priest said that during the mass that was about to be celebrated that i was to recieve the Host as if i was making my first communion at the age of 5 and that Jesus was alowing it and that is what he felt inhis heart. He as a priest was going to let this hapend as well and was allowing it since it came from God. I was given teh chase to redo my first communion at an earlier age.

All the time while praying on me they kept saying that they could see a child fighting with a demon with a stick. Well i am still stuk with thoses thoughts. Your advise on how to take this would be appreciated.

Sorry if it didn't make much sens the first time but i hope that it does now. HOpe this is more clear to you.

Mariella

Dear Mariella:

Well I fail to understand why the priest said that your communion would be as if you were receiving communion at 5 years old. There is no such thing as "redoing" First Communion.

There are many people who treat First Communion as if it is a special Sacrament. It is not. First Communion is merely the first time one received communion, whether that is at 7 years old or 70.

We make First Communion a special ceremony with children, but there is no particular significance in First Communion other than it is the first time.

I presume these people are laying hands on you in prayer. We need to be very careful who we allow to lay hands on us, especially if they are charismatics, who rarely know what they are doing about these things.

These people should have never told you about their alleged "vision" of a child fighting the demon with a stick outside the context of a formal deliverance counseling. This is precisely why we should stay away from these charismatics and healers who do this sort of thing. They do more damage than good since they do not know what they are doing and their subjective "visions" and such are mostly psychologically induced.

If you have had no other problems that suggest something demonological, I would not worry about it. Just dismiss it as the rantings of well-intentioned, but misguided people; and don't allow people like this to lay hands on you again.

Just put the experience behind you. Give the memory to God if it continues to bother you, asking God to comfort your thoughts.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
