blessed and or exorcised objects
Hello Brother Ignatius,
Just two very simple question. :-) Ok you know me, more then two but anyways in the very same context.
1) I have been wanting to bless the place i rent ever since my room mate left for certain reasons i will not mention. I wanted to use blessed water or blessed salt but i have none of these two. I know they have some in the church that is not the problem i can always go and get some. I wanted to know if blessed incense would do just the same with prayers and faith. As a mater of fact the one that i have, the incense, as been excorsised.
2) What is the deference between an excorsised and or blessed substance? To my knowledge being exorcised is a blessing is it not? Then why such a deference when mentionning it other then a few extra prayer being done over it? Am i correct here in saying that? And what are those prayers?? Do they bring more to the substance spiritualy?? Who can do those specific prayers?
To my knowledge a lot of poeple today compare to back in time, in history, would ask to have the use of these special prayers asked to be made upon objects. Note there was a lot more faith then then today. Why is it not used as much anymore in the church as well. Such as during a baptism the salt is not used anymore. I am just wanting to learn the history of it and the reason it is, water, salt and incense, not used much anymore as i understand it, to be very imortant in spiritual life. I thought maybe it was due to changes in the liturgy but could be wrong???

Dear Sandy: Blessed incense, water, or salt can be used to bless a home. The difference between the prayers to create the Sacramental of Holy Water in the Book of Blessings today as opposed to 40 years ago, is that the prayers today do not have the blessing and exorcism of the salt and of the water with a pinch of salt added to the water. At the moment I am not sure of the state of the mandates on the Blessings. Provision may be made for priest to use the Old Blessing, or this may be precluded. If it is precluded, even though the traditional language of the simple exorcism may not be used, the ontological fact of the blessing itself constitutes an exorcism of the creature water. Thus, Holy Water blessed under the new ritual remains just as efficacious for the protection from evil as under the old ritual.
