Dear Dustin:

Martin's book on Exorcism has some problems with it. I would not recommend it.

My take on Malachi Martin overall is not positive. He unfortunately became an ultra-traditionalist, and as such, has a flag ship for that highly misguided and troubled movement.

This laicized priest caused a great deal of damage to the Faithful, a lot of dissension and promotion of distrust in our Pope through his "National Enquirer" style "journalism" and writings. He had a lot of accusations but virtually no proof. He liked to call his novels "FACT-ion" (part fiction, part fact), however he would never reveal which parts were fact and which were fiction. His explanation for this is that he was protecting the public, because he felt the public could not take it if they were told the truth right out. Ya, right!

I think the real reason for his FACT-ion was that to make his assertions in novel form he did not have to provide proof for his assertions; plus mystery and conspiracy sells books.

I was in the process of doing a full expose on him when he died. Since his death, however, the specter of his divisive teachings lives on in his groupies. Thus, when I have time, I plan on finishing the expose one of these days.

In short, I do not recommend his writings as serious writings. As a novelist, however, he is fine, but remember, his novels are novels. One should not read into them any more than that.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
